Indonesia bids for 2032 Summer Olympics
After successfully hosting 2018 Asian Games and Para Games, Indonesia has formally sought to host 2032 Olympics, media reports said on Tuesday.
In a letter addressed to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) president, President Joko Widodo has said that the far-east nation was ready to host the Olympic Games in 2032, Indonesian news agency Antara reported.
The letter was presented to Thomas Bach, the IOC president in Lausanne, Switzerland on Feb. 11, 2019, by Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland Muliaman D. Hadad, the Indonesian Embassy in Bern said Tuesday.
The report said that the Indonesian ambassador received a positive response from the IOC.
“The IOC has recognized Indonesia’s capability while organizing the 2018 Asian Games and Para Games that were successful. I think this is quite a strong foundation,” the report quoted the IOC executive director as telling the Indonesian envoy.
Japan, France, and the U.S. will respectively host the Olympic Games for 2020, 2024, and 2028 while the selection process for the 2032 Olympic host will begin not before 2024.
